Everyday Home: Countdown to Turkey Day

Feeling overwhelmed about the upcoming big day? Here is an easy-to-follow list of how to tackle it all and still have enough energy to enjoy the meal you worked so hard to get on the table! Week before Thanksgiving • Clean out the refrigerator!!! Put in a new box of baking soda • Clean and inventory pantry or cabinets • Wash dishes, cutlery and serving pieces (or be sure you have plenty of heavy paper/plastic products.) • Check table linens – wash and iron if needed • Check your menu – make list of items needed. • Purchase turkey or ham if needed • Add some canned vegetables to the list – in case you have extra guests or a dish fails (or someone fails to bring a dish) • Remember that you will probably need extra milk, eggs, etc for meal preparation • If you don’t normally keep instant potatoes (the unflavored kind) on hand, buy a box – they can quickly thicken gravy that’s too thin, extend “real” mashed potatoes in a pinch, etc.
