Marketplace adding four storefronts

Started a few weeks ago, dirt work continues at the Marketplace, just south of Hobby Lobby. Walter Baker, economic development lead for Shawnee Forward, said though “the plans that leaked on Facebook (a few weeks ago) aren’t the up-to-date and filed site plans, the content is essentially accurate.” According to a rendering Baker provided to The Shawnee News-Star, the four businesses making plans to operate at the new location are Burlington, Five Below, Maurices and Boot Barn.

Tickets available to Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art’s annual gala

SHAWNEE -- The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is hosting its annual Gala, themed “Enchanted Gardens,” on Friday, Dec. 2 at the Grand Casino Hotel & Resort, located at 777 Grand Casino Blvd. in Shawnee. The event will feature a cocktail reception with light hors d’ oeuvres and music beginning at 6 p.m. with dinner to follow at 7 p.m. Attire is black tie optional. Individual tickets can be purchased for $150 with all proceeds benefiting the Museum’s art education programming for children.

Pottawatomie County smokers encouraged to participate in the Great American Smokeout

SHAWNEE -- Smokers in Pottawatomie County and across Oklahoma are encouraged to quit tobacco for a day, or a lifetime, during the Great American Smokeout on Thursday, Nov. 17. The event symbolizes a new beginning for many tobacco users since the 1970s, and this year includes a limited-time offer providing added incentive to Oklahomans thinking about quitting tobacco.
