Voters head to the polls Tuesday. The State Election Board offers these tips and reminders to Oklahoma voters. ELECTION DAY VOTING Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day. Lines at the polls are typically longest before work, during the lunch hour, and after work. If turnout is heavy at your precinct, be prepared for possible wait times. All eligible voters in line by 7 p.m. will be permitted to vote. VERIFY POLLING PLACE Due to statutory redistricting, some precincts have changed.

Local Emergency Management teams provide drone assistance after Idabel tornado

Local emergency management teams responded to areas in and around Idabel in McCurtain County over the weekend after tornadoes caused extensive damage in that area Friday night. Members of both Pottwatomie County and Lincoln County Emergency Management were requested and deployed with the Oklahoma Disaster Task Force as part of the Drone Strike Team.

City manager to outline 2023 sales tax vote

On Monday, during the regular Shawnee City Commission meeting, Shawnee City Manager Andrea Weckmueller-Behringer will give an administrative report on the 2023 sales tax election, which is scheduled for Jan. 10. If approved, “the 0.5 percent sales tax increase would replace the new Utility Improvement Fee, which has been approved to begin on March 1, 2023,” the agenda reads. “Either the fee or the tax is needed to fund the replacement of the City’s 40- and 70-year-old wastewater treatment plants.”
