November gardening tips

It’s finally getting cooler, and we are finally getting some much-needed rain to replenish soil moisture; however, we need lots more rain this winter. Cold, dry winters kill more plants than cold wet winters. If you’re having withdrawal symptoms because the gardening season is winding down, there are still plenty of things to do and there will probably be plenty of nice days during November to enjoy being outside. If you had lots of wind damage from recent storms and major damage from the last two winters’ polar vortex, it’s a good time to replace dead or severely damaged plants. OK Proven.org is the go-to place to find the best replacement plants that will do well in Oklahoma. I like the fact that many of the OK Proven plants are also Native Oklahoma plants. OSU also has lots of recommendations for plants for every landscape need you may have as well as information on where to plant, how to plant, and how to care for plants. You will find info on OK Proven and can search for any horticulture question you have about Oklahoma gardening at https:// extension.okstate.edu/fact-sheets. I keep the web address saved to my “Favorites” bar so I can just click on it easily.
