Shawnee’s city sales tax collection report for September has been released; revenue increased compared to last year but came in below last month’s data. Lindsey McNabb-Fox, finance director, reports sales tax and use tax collections totaled $2,469,208.41 for the month — about $22,560.19 below last month’s figures.

Brandi Shirey, a third grade teacher at Cross Timbers Elementary School in Tecumseh, was selected as The Shawnee News-Star’s August Teacher of the Month, an award sponsored by Patriot Auto Group in Chandler.
For the past several years Community Renewal of Pottawatomie County has immersed itself neckdeep in efforts to bring the community together; with the nonprofit’s recent takeover of some key city events, it has now taken a deep dive. For years, the City of Shawnee contracted with Safe Events For Families (SEFF) to provide community events -- including Boo on Bell and the Downtown Christmas Parade.
Among items on Monday’s Shawnee City Commission meeting are consideration and adoption of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Citizen Potawatomi Nation and the City of Shawnee for the transfer of wastewater infrastructure in the de-annexed area.
Good morning, Shawnee! Here at the Senior Recreation Center at 401 N. Bell, we host a variety of creative groups for ages 55+. Our crochet collection of members gathers each Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Sue Smith taught this crochet group for many years, and she still stops in from time to time. The week of the Pottawatomie County Fair went by in a blur. Fewer horticulture entries appeared this year, no doubt due to our ridiculous summer, but people brought their best regardless.

ADA – Many around the world mourn the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history. The queen had met four popes and 13 presidents throughout her reign, and East Central University professor, Dr. Steve Gardner.
There will plenty of fun in Tecumseh Saturday, Sept 17, as the city celebrates its history with Frontier Days events. Activities are planned all day Saturday downtown, including the Frontier Days parade at 10 a.m., followed by events throughout the day and then an evening full of events and music at Slick Humphrey Park.
