Medical examiner confirms identity in Pott. County homicide
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has confirmed the identity of a man found shot to death last week on a rural Pottawatomie County roadway east of Shawnee. Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth said the medical examiner identified the man as William Dalton Hesson, 25.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Lands at Pioneer Library System
Free books by mail are coming soon, delivered straight to the homes of young children living in the Pioneer Library System service area. One of the newest affiliates of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Pioneer Library System invites families living in Cleveland, McClain, and Pottawatomie Counties to register their children under the age of five for the program, intended to cultivate a love of reading in early life.

Pott. County sales tax collections in September dip downward
Pottawatomie County sales tax collections in September show a decline in numbers compared to August – and reports a nearly $30,000 decrease compared to last year’s figures. Treasurer Wendy Magnus reported September collections totaled $820,463.32 — more than $43,000 short of last month’s figures.
District 1 commissioner tries to combat litter, trash
District 1 Pottawatomie County Commissioner Melissa Dennis is trying something new to help combat the ongoing problems of litter and trash gathering along roadways in her district. Shawnee splash pads open until Oct. 1
It may be September, but it’s still warm in Oklahoma and area residents can enjoy an extended season at the city’s two splash pads. The splash pads at both Boy Scout Park at Main and Pesotum, and Shawnee Splash, Highland and Broadway, will remain open until Oct. 1 this year.
