Application opening date set for Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant Program

The Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS) will open applications for the 2022/2023 grant cycle of the Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant Program on Thursday, September 1, 2022. This grantsin- aid program will set aside $600,000 to award grants ranging from $500 to $20,000 to municipal, county or tribal governments and not-for-profit historical organizations, as well as the support groups for these entities. All not-for-profit applicants must be registered and in good standing with the Oklahoma secretary of state. The grants will be specific to four categories: collections, exhibits, programs and capacity building.

Zoo to celebrate world Dog Day

Runoff decides Ward 6 winner

Shawnee voters choose city commissioner; Shawnee superintendent loses bid in state race Residents went to the polls for the runoff election held Tuesday, choosing official party front-runners who will represent their party in the General Election in November – as well as deciding who would secure the seat for a local leadership post – Ward 6 on the City Commission. CITY: Shawnee Since none of the three Ward 6 candidates secured at least 50 percent of the vote in June, Tuesday’s runoff remained a battle between Alan Rogers, 56, and Lauren Richter, 33, who stayed nearly tied (40.5 percent to 39.1 percent, respectively) in the June Primary.

Pott. County Sheriff’s Office monitoring vehicle thefts, burglaries

By Elisabeth Slay The Shawnee News-Star eslay@news-star.com Throughout 2022, the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office has responded and investigated various vehicles thefts and thefts from vehicles. According to Sheriff Mike Booth, reports show since January of this year, there have been about 53 vehicles stolen and 21 burglaries from vehicles throughout the county.
