OTA board approves funds for PlatePay conversion; $74M for preliminary ACCESS Oklahoma design work

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority board approved an agenda item at its Tuesday, July 26, meeting aimed at aiding in the conversion to PlatePay (cashless tolling). The routine vote gives the OTA access of up to $10.5 million in general funds toward the purchasing of hardware and miscellaneous tasks needed to continue converting Oklahoma’s remaining turnpikes to cashless tolling.

Feds hope new website can prevent deaths from worsening heat

WASHINGTON (AP) — The federal government hopes a new website can help people and local governments beat the increasingly deadly heat of an ever-warming world. Days after nearly half the country — 154.6 million people — sweated through a blistering heat wave, which for the West, hasn’t quite finished, the Biden Administration Tuesday unveiled heat.gov, which includes maps, forecasts and health advice.

No immunity shots for grief

No one is immune to the sad experience of grieving the death of a loved one. Yet, until the death of a significant person happens in our lives, we tend to deny the certainty of death and minimize the impact it has on the quality of our lives. Then when it does happen, it seems like the floor falls out from beneath us. If we are lucky, we get a crash course in grieving from a counselor, clergy person, or social worker.
