Main St. demo still navigating removal process

Along the 500 block of Main Street there lays a pile of rubble from a demolition seven months ago. A long-standing two-story building on that site caught fire Dec. 2 – the same day as Shawnee’s annual Christmas Parade. With thousands of residents making their way downtown that evening, the city chose a fast-track on tearing down the unstable structure the same day, due to safety concerns.

July city sales tax, Use tax up

Shawnee’s city sales tax collection report for July has been released; revenue increased compared to last year. Jacob Bussell, assistant finance director, reports sales tax and use tax collections totaled $2,560,601.32 for the month — about $7,063.28 above last month’s figures.

Miss Lincoln County competition to be held Jan. 7, 2023

Miss Lincoln County Organization officials have announced the second annual Miss Lincoln County and Miss Lincoln County’s Outstanding Teen Competitions will be held on January 7, 2023. The Miss Lincoln County and Miss Lincoln County’s Outstanding Teen Organization is proud to welcome contestants from a 65-mile radius of Stroud to the competition, which will take place at the Stroud High School Auditorium.

Dangerous heat intensifies in the Plains
