NEW YORK (AP) — Federal authorities are pushing back on R. Kelly’s claims that he was placed on suicide watch as a form of punishment last week after a judge sentenced him to 30 years behind bars for using his fame to sexually abuse young girls.
David Hammer, the District Attorney-elect of Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties, died Sunday afternoon, leaving his family - and the Shawnee community - to mourn an unexpected loss. The announcement was shared by Hammer’s family on his Facebook page, prompting hundreds of comments and condolences.
The Shawnee City Commission had four board seats up for grabs, and this week voters secured positions for three incumbents. Daniel Matthews (Ward 1), Cami Engles (Ward 2) and Mark Sehorn (Ward 5) will be sworn in at tonight’s regular commission meeting. The fourth seat, Ward 6, is heading to a runoff between Alan Rogers and Lauren Richter on Aug. 23.
