Oklahoma Bar Association seeks award nominations

The deadline is approaching to submit nominations for the Oklahoma Bar Association’s annual awards presentations. Awards are open to individuals and organizations who have positively impacted the community, and those submitting nominations do not need to be lawyers. Nominations must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, July 1 and will be presented to recipients at the OBA Annual Meeting this November at the Oklahoma City Convention Center.

Public Safety Fee coming to utility bills in August

This week Shawnee City Commissioners unanimously approved the creation of a Public Safety Fee as a temporary fix to get the Shawnee Fire Department (SFD) three added firefighters it needs to function at its minimum level -- which would also greatly reduce temporary closings at Fire Station No. 2. To completely resolve closings at the fire station, the SFD would have to have nine additional firefighters, SFD Chief Tony Wittman said recently.

VAWA investigator works to make a difference in people’s lives

For the last 11 months, Amber Soule-Beckham has worked as the VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) Investigator for the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office. Soule-Beckham investigates child abuse and sexual abuse cases involving those over the age of 11-years-old and cases of domestic violence, but she also serves protective orders, attends court and works on related cases and sometimes more.

Monthly boxes of food available to seniors in Pott. County

(SHAWNEE) – Qualified seniors in Pottawatomie County can receive monthly boxes of nutritious food to supplement their diet through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). The free program, a partnership of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, provides boxes of food items through Community Market of Pottawatomie County.
