A five-year, $3.7 million School Climate Transformation grant is making a significant impact, according to new data released by the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE). The grant was awarded in 2018 through the U.S. Department of Education and is administered through OSDE.

The Civil Air Patrol will host the National Flight Academy at Shawnee Regional Airport June 17-26. According to Crystal Sommers, Captain of the Civil Air Patrol, there will be 20 cadets from ages 16 to 21 who are coming from all over the United States to participate in the academy.

Shawnee’s homeless population may soon have a new space to gather for help, services and safety from the elements during the day. During community discussions last fall and this spring, Shawnee Homeless Program Coordinator Erika Genty said in a memo to City Commissioners, it was noted that there is a high rate of homelessness in the downtown area of Shawnee, leading to the perception that the district is unsafe and undesirable for business.
