Shawnee Mayor Ed Bolt recently recognized Sprockets, the robotics team from Gordon Cooper Technology Center (GCTC), for their achievements in some highly competitive events. He awarded the group with certificates of recognition after the team received the Championship Engineering Inspiration Award at a recent world competition in Houston.
The Shawnee Public Library launched its Summer Learning Challenge with an event in the Rotary Boy Scout Park Tuesday afternoon. According to Branch Manager Peggy Cook, there were various activities at the event including games, free food, free snow cones and several library partners giving away various prizes at booths.

Texas police: School door shut but didn’t lock before attack An exterior door at Robb Elementary School did not lock when it was closed by a teacher shortly before a gunman used it to get inside and kill 19 students and two teachers, leaving investigators searching to determine why, state police said Tuesday. State police initially said a teacher had propped the door open shortly before Salvador Ramos, 18, entered the school in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24.

The Pottawatomie County Election Board is offering classes for the precinct officials throughout the county. According to Election Board Secretary Patricia Carter, precinct officials staff the polling places in the county and they are required to participate in trainings to remain qualified to work on elections.
