Block Party invites all to Woodland Park on May 10
On Saturday, May 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Community Renewal of Pottawatomie County is throwing its first Block Party event of the season in Woodland Park, at 100 E. Highland.
April deluges shatter records
Just four months after Oklahoma shattered its all-time November rainfall record, the state did it again—this time in April. The statewide average rainfall totaled 8.74 inches, surpassing the previous April record of 8.32 inches set in 1942, with data dating back to 1895.
Powder Puff football game a fun fundraiser
After having a lot of success bringing back a fun fundraiser in 2024, this year’s Shawnee Powder Puff game was held May 2 on the turf at Jim Thorpe Stadium. There were four teams playing again in the fundraising event this year.
Shawnee City Commission changes May meeting date
An amended meeting notice has been issued by the City of Shawnee, noting a change in the date for Shawnee City Commission's May meeting. It was changed from the originally scheduled time of May 19; instead the board will gather at 6 p.m.

One person was killed in an early morning crash over the weekend northwest of Shawnee.

PRAGUE - The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports a 10-year-old boy was killed last week while driving a 2023 Yamaha UTV and a 12-year-old passenger was critically injured.

Oklahoma Baptist University’s McCabe School of Education is expanding its graduate-level offerings with two new 18-hour certificates designed to serve both new and experienced teachers seeking advanced credentials. The first of the two, a certificate in Curriculum and Instruction, will launch this summer.
Election Day laws and reminders offered for May 13 SRC election
Voters in Pottawatomie County are reminded to keep the integrity of the election system in mind, when going to the polls May 13. While ballot “selfies” or taking photographs of a marked ballot are legal, voters may not share or distribute the image through social media or by any other means while inside the election enclosure.
