Workers recount nearly being hit in Turner Turnpike work zone near Stroud

A night-time crash earlier this year on the Turner Turnpike nearly cost two Oklahoma Turnpike Authority employees their lives. Jeremy Smart and Kenny Baker recounted their near-miss in a work zone when Oklahoma Transportation and Oklahoma Turnpike Authority employees gathered Friday morning at ODOT’s Oklahoma City headquarters to share a moment of silence and hear the names of the two agency’s 72 fallen workers be read by transportation executives.

Promise shown in new physical therapy treatment for MS symptoms

An Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation physical therapist has developed a new treatment regimen for multiple sclerosis that appears to enhance mobility without causing fatigue. “The results need to be confirmed in a larger study, but they suggest possible improvement upon current intervention methods,” said Bobbette Miller, who treats patients at OMRF’s Multiple Sclerosis Center of Excellence and the University of Oklahoma Medical Center.

Race on for many local seats

The race is on for several area government seats as many local candidates completed filing requirements last week. With positions available in city, county and state offices, the filing period yielded several names to consider as the June election approaches.

Ukrainian governor: Russian strikes kill at least 6 in Lviv LVIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian missiles hit the city of Lviv in western Ukraine on Monday, killing at least six people, Ukrainian officials said, as Moscow’s troops stepped up strikes on infrastructure in preparation for an all-out assault on the east. City sales, Use tax collections up

Shawnee’s city sales tax collection report for April has been released; revenue increased compared to last month and last year. Jacob Bussell, assistant finance director, reports sales tax and use tax collections totaled $2,379,992.27 for thea month — about $368,196 above last month’s total.
