4-H and FFA students find success, inspiration

If you walk into the arena at State Fair Park during the Oklahoma Youth Expo, you’ll walk away with dusty shoes and a new respect for the hard work of kids in 4-H and FFA programs across the state. With thousands of head of livestock on site, you can reach out and touch a pig, goat, sheep or cow at nearly every turn, and for every animal it feels like there’s at least a couple of humans. The expo brings together Oklahoma students to show off animals, knowledge and technical abilities. Some walk away with cash prizes or scholarships, but the overall consensus is the biggest rewards come in the lessons learned along the way.

Daunte Wright memorial to stay put in Brooklyn Center BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. – The mayor of the Minneapolis suburb where Daunte Wright was killed by an officer who said she mistook her handgun for her Taser said Tuesday that a memorial to the Black motorist will stay in place, after miscommunication with staff led some to believe it would be removed.

ARPA funds could soon ease water woes

Last week Shawnee City Manager Andrea Weckmueller-Behringer presented an update about funding that could be used to improve a longtime need — the city's water and sewer lines. The American Rescue Plan Act (AR-PA), signed into law in March 2021, was established to provide additional financial relief in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
