SHAWNEE - In a workshop filled with the hum of power tools and the click of laptop keys, a group of eighth graders from Grove Elementary in Shawnee gather around their latest creation, a robot they are meticulously designing to take on the challenges of an upcoming competition. Meeting on Friday evenings and Saturdays in the Oklahoma Baptist University engineering building, the students troubleshoot its programming and refine its mechanics under the guidance of Roger and Lori Farris, a husband-and-wife team with a passion for engineering and education.

WASHINGTON - House Republicans passed on Tuesday a stopgap spending bill in asignificant win for the GOP majority but more importantly for Oklahoma’s CongressmanTom Cole, who challenged the Freedom Caucus to vote yes.The bill is a major victory for House Republicans—especially for Cole (R, Moore) theappropriations chair who told the GOP’s caucus that “funding the federal government isour constitutional obligation.”Cole was the primary sponsor of the bill and has been working since the passage ofDecember’s stopgap bill to draft the resolution.
