Shawnee Little Theatre's production of 'Misery' opens Feb. 7

The mastermind behind many of today’s most acclaimed thrillers, Stephen King, comes to Shawnee Little Theatre with a stage version of "Misery" from his best-selling book and acclaimed movie. Adapted and written for the stage by Academy Award winning author William Goldman, the play tells the story of a former nurse who kidnaps a romance novelist after he kills off her favorite character, Misery Chastain, in his latest book.

Assistant city manager appointed to interim position

On Tuesday afternoon, the Shawnee City Commission gathered for a Special Call meeting, going into executive session to consider the employment of an interim city manager while the board seeks a replacement for the post after the abrupt resignation of Andrea Weckmueller-Behringer last week. After two and a half hours behind closed doors, Ward 1 Shawnee City Commissioner Daniel Matthews made a motion to appoint Assistant City Manager Mark Simpson to the role of interim, as well as authorizing the city attorney to set up a contract according to the terms that had been discussed.

Meeting in Shawnee draws crowd to discuss open primaries, SQ 836

SHAWNEE — More than 80 residents from the Shawnee area gathered Monday night for a CommonSense Club meeting hosted by Oklahoma United to discuss State Question 836, the proposed ballot initiative to replace Oklahoma’s closed primary system with an open primary system. The larger-than-expected turnout at First United Bank led organizers to bring in extra seating to accommodate the engaged crowd.
