January Students of the Month named 

[EDITOR'S NOTE: Two students are being honored for each month from September to April of the 2024-25 school year, named as nominees for the Best of Tri-County Area Preps Student of the Year award, which will be announced at the News-Star's Preps gala on June 3.] Poplyn (Poppy) Robinson and Emily Lazzara have been named The Shawnee News-Star and CPN Students of the Month for January and are now finalists for the Student of the Year award. Robinson is a senior at Dale High School and Lazzara is a senior at Prague High School.

Gordon Cooper Technology Center Biomedical Debate Team wins state, headed to nationals

Shawnee High School students representing the Gordon Cooper Technology Center (GCTC) Biomedical Debate Team have been named the State Champion in the Biomedical Debate competition at the Oklahoma HOSA–Future Health Professionals State Leadership Conference. Their outstanding performance has earned them a spot at the upcoming HOSA International Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, this June.

Wood fires no-hitter as Wolves complete sweep of Tulsa Hale

Right-hander Corbin Wood fired a five-inning no-hitter while allowing just two baserunners as the Shawnee Wolves completed a baseball doubleheader sweep with a 13-0 rout of Tulsa Hale Monday night at Memorial Park’s Ed Skelton Field. Earlier in the day, Derrock Criswell, also a right-hander, had a pitching gem of his own as he gave up just two hits and two walks while striking out seven as Shawnee tripped the Rangers 11-1, also in five innings.

Tecumseh trounces Little Axe in run-rule shortened game 12-0

TECUMSEH – Class 5A top-ranked Tecumseh produced 11 hits as four different Lady Savages knocked in two runs apiece in a 12-0 thumping of Little Axe Tuesday in 3 ½ innings. Tecumseh’s Alyssa Norton and Jacee Townsend provided the big sticks as Norton doubled twice, knocked in two runs and scored twice in a 2-for-3 performance while Townsend was 2-for-2 with two runs batted in and two runs scored.

Three Shawnee teams compete in regional robotics event

Once again, Shawnee youth showed up strong in their bid to be counted among the leaders in the Science and Tech competitions. Over three days this weekend, FireLake Arena played host to robotics teams in the annual FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition - Oklahoma Regional, which honors teams for design excellence, competitive play, sportsmanship, and high impact partnerships between schools, businesses, and communities.
