Roger Steven Little ”Poppy”

Roger Steven Little “Poppy” 75, of Eufaula, Ok., went to his Eternal Home on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. Roger was born on November 5, 1946, in Wewoka, Ok, to Marvin Louis and Cecile (Stevens) Little. He attended Wewoka Schools from Kindergarten-12th grade, graduating with the class of 1965. Roger attended East Central University from 1965-69, where he served as the President of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. He earned his Bachelors Degree in English Education in 1969. Roger served in the Army National Guard from 1969-1975, receiving the rank of E-6 Staff Sergeant. He got his first teaching job at Howe Schools in 1969. Roger met the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Miller, while at ECU. The two married April 2, 1970, at the Wewoka Church of Christ. They settled into their first home in Choctaw, where Roger coached football, wrestling and track at Choctaw Jr. High from 1970-73. In 1973, Roger and Beth moved to Prague, where Roger taught English at Prague High School and served as an assistant football coach. He later became the assistant principal at Prague Middle School and High School, after receiving his Masters Degree in Administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1982. Together, Roger and Beth decided that the Prague community was where they wanted to raise their family. They built Beth’s dream home, where they raised their daughter, Jennifer, and son, Jeremy. In 1983, Roger became the Assistant Principal at Seminole High School. Upon completion of the new Seminole Middle School ,several years later, he assumed the Principal’s position there.. He also served as the Chairman of Oklahoma Association of Secondary School Principals (OASSP). Roger worked for Seminole Schools for 11 years before taking a job closer to home, at Paden High School, where he served as Principal, until his retirement in 2002. After retiring, Roger and Beth settled into their lake home at Lake Eufaula. They have loved being a part of the Eufaula community since 2005. Roger was an active member of Lake Eufaula Christian Church, where he served as an Elder for 15 years. Poppy loved his family and he loved Jesus. He was happiest watching his grandsons play ball, reading books with his granddaughters, and having family cookouts. He made the best chocolate pie in the USA. Poppy was a diehard Sooner football fan; he liked watching the OKC Thunder, fishing, and piddling around the farm on his tractor. Left to cherish his memory - His wife of 52 years, Beth, of the home; daughter, Jennifer Lynn (Little) Banfield and husband Bart of Sand Springs; son, Jeremy Layne Little and wife Kimberlee, of Eufaula; grandchildren Bo, Jake, and Bryn Banfield and Avenlea Little. Also, brother Jimmie Louis Little of Seminole. Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Cecile Little. Roger’s Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Lake Eufaula Christian Church. Cremation arrangements were made with Hunn, Black & Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory.
