Family drama intensifies with dogs’ disappearance

DEAR ABBY: My husband and I have inherited four dogs from relatives. I was out of state for a month (my husband was home) when two of them were dognapped, driven 42 miles away and abandoned in the wilderness. I suspected who had done it right away, but when I heard where the dogs had been abandoned, I knew without a doubt. We were lucky: One dog was microchipped, which eventually led him back to us. Both were cared for by rescue foundations until I could bring them home.

Legislation on insurance, judiciary

This year, lawmakers took several steps to help protect Oklahoma consumers by authorizing the option for incentive programs and ensuring better transparency and fair pricing. SB 462 creates the Oklahoma Right to Shop Act, which authorizes insurance carriers to offer a shared savings incentive program to enrollees when obtaining a comparable health care service from providers that charge less than the average amount.

Lessons from France

As I am sitting on my balcony of a boat traveling down the Mosel River in Germany, passing picturesque villages founded before Christopher Columbus was even born, I am in awe of this place with its castles and massive churches. While I am having a dream vacation, I am also thinking upon what the history of this region can teach. As you know, I believe history is here for us to learn from, and while I was spending a few days in Paris, eating some amazing food, I have realized how part of France’s history may be mirroring our own right now.

Married woman’s epiphany opens path to new life

DEAR ABBY: I have been married for two decades to a man who is incapable of connecting with anyone. It didn’t become apparent until after we were married. He is very good at surface relationships but cannot go deeper than that. Because of this, he abused, isolated and ignored me. He didn’t realize he was causing harm since he didn’t regard me -- and still doesn’t regard me -- as a person with emotions.

Grandparents have opinions on what’s best for young man

DEAR ABBY: Our 26-year-old, college-educated grandson, “Ethan,” crashed his company car and was arrested for DWI and possession of more than a gram of cocaine. His mother hired a lawyer, posted bond and is taking full charge of the situation. Ethan lost his responsible job, and his girlfriend kicked him out. He has a sizable inheritance, enough to pay the lawyer and fine. Since he has never been in trouble before, we are hoping he won’t go to jail.

Young mother careening through stressful life

DEAR ABBY: My stepdaughter, “Crystal,” has a toxic relationship with her mother. Both have battled alcoholism. The mother did some extreme damage that has ended the possibility of Crystal regaining custody of her 6-year-old son. My husband and I hired a lawyer to help her fight for her rights, and we have brought her to our home twice. The last time was right out of the hospital after she nearly killed herself with alcohol poisoning.

John Kerry, where art thou?

Dear editor, Perhaps, like many of our readers, my view of the motivations and intent for destroying this great nation have varied; especially, the main actors and their ‘true believers’ who always have a fresh batch of blue Kool Aid. No cheating---Quick, name three policies the current administration has done that benefits all of America.

The state of our baseball fields

Dear editor, Growing up during the summer in Shawnee, kids were usually at a friend’s house until dark, at the community pool at Municipal Park, or at the Lions Club field either playing baseball or watching their friends play baseball for the YMCA. However, there was one thing that was very concerning to me coaching this year, and to other parents as well, and that was the state of the fields.
