Economic development bills seek to spur job creation

Economic development is always a major focus of concern for lawmakers at the State Capitol. If we can help our communities and our state create wealth by bringing in more job creators and higher-paying jobs, we all benefit with a better quality of life and in numerous other ways. It’s this wealth, after all, the funds our schools, our roads, our health care, our public safety services and so much more. This week’s column focuses on economic development measures that were passed during this year’s legislative session.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Reader responds to writer’s letter Dear editor, A letter to the editor in Sunday’s News-Star proposed that “an ever-increasing, highly-financed, elitist-orchestrated” effort is being made “to destroy America by destroying our history.” The people behind this conspiracy are “socialists, communists, and radicals of every stripe.” The author does not name any individual or group involved in this effort nor does he provide any evidence about how we can know their political affiliation. He doesn’t tell us why they want to destroy America’s history.

Caregiver wears brave face despite growing despair

DEAR ABBY: I’m a 56-year-old, married, 24/7 caregiver. My husband is terminally ill. When he was diagnosed, all I could think about was what can I do to make this as pleasant and comfortable as possible for my husband and best friend. Beam me up Elon, no history here

Dear editor, There is an ongoing, ever-increasing, politically-motivated, highly-financed, elitist-orchestrated effort to destroy America by destroying our history. Family struggles to grow roots amid frequent moves

DEAR ABBY: My husband, my child and I have moved six times over an eight-year period. Some of the moves were within months of each other. All of them were for financial or emotional reasons. The last one took us an hour and a half away from where we had been living for many years. We had formed relationships there, and our child had built friendships. We loved the area and school. We decided to buy a house after renting, but we struggled to find a place in our price range. Instead, we found one back in an old area we liked.

Husband’s dishonesty about finances imperils marriage

DEAR ABBY: I am married to a man from a different country, culture and religion. We have an amazing relationship, and he is my best friend. We do everything together -- grocery shop, date nights, travel, etc. He is a wonderful husband. The only problem is he doesn’t contribute financially. I have told him time and again that this is going to be a big problem for us.
