Two OBU soccer players honored by GAC

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Katie Fowler and Ireland Jeffrey of the Oklahoma Baptist women’s soccer team were selected as Great American Conference Players of the Week on Tuesday. It is Fowler’s first honor of her career while for Jeffrey, her third. Last week, OBU won two road games against Ouachita and Harding to improve to 3-5 and 2-0 in the GAC. Against the Tigers, Fowler, a senior, led the green and gold to a 5-3 comeback win as she tallied a trio of goals including the game-winner. As for Jeffrey, a second-year goalie, she started the second half against Ouachita and then all 90 minutes versus Harding and did not concede a goal. Tecumseh clips host Bethel, 7-2

BETHEL ACRES – The Tecumseh Lady Savages, behind a four-run fifth inning, knocked off the host Bethel Lady Wildcats 7-2 in Tuesday action. Jessi Hull went 2-for-4 from the plate with a double and drove home three runs while Katie Overstreet (1-for-3), Cadence Oliver (1-for-3), Katelyn Fleming and Sami Schweighardt picked up one RBI apiece as Tecumseh held a 9-8 edge in total hits.

Outstanding, notable performances from Week 4

Here are the outstanding and notable performances from Tri-County area players for Week 4 of the high school football season: Ty Gabbert, Meeker Gabbert ran for 205 yards on 16 carries and scored four touchdowns off runs of 3, 7, 38 and 6 yards and was 11of-14 passing for 194 more yards and another TD in Meeker’s 48-34 home victory over the Bethel Wildcats to open district play last Friday. Gabbert was also in on 15 tackles on the defensive side of the ball.
