Two former Shawnee stars, one from Dale contribute to winning season for UNT

Two former Shawnee High School softball standouts – Tatum Sparks and Anneca Anderson – along with a former Dale star – Madison Conley – helped fuel the University of North Texas Mean Green to a 36-21 record and a runner-up finish in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. Sparks, a utility infielder, batted .328 with seven home runs and nine doubles to go with 30 runs batted in and 41 runs scored for UNT as she also owned a .475 slugging percentage and .352 on-base percentage.

Whenever great Dale teams and wins are discussed, the Lady Pirates’ comeback win over Pocola last Thursday night at the Ballfields at Firelake in the 4A State Championship will be in the conversation. After a legendary comeback in the sixth and seventh innings to send the game to extra innings, Heartly Snyder’s final swing as a Lady Pirate lifted a towering home run to left field and lifted the Lady Pirates to an extra inning victory over Pocola to put another trophy in the crowded trophy case at Dale.
