ENID – It’s as if the Potawatomi Fire grew fangs in the fourth quarter Thursday night at the Stride Bank Center. Down by 18 points (97-79) with 21 seconds to go in the third period, Potawatomi staged a miraculous comeback and edged the Enid Outlaws 116-115 in The Basketball League (TBL).

Two former Shawnee High School softball standouts – Tatum Sparks and Anneca Anderson – along with a former Dale star – Madison Conley – helped fuel the University of North Texas Mean Green to a 36-21 record and a runner-up finish in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. Sparks, a utility infielder, batted .328 with seven home runs and nine doubles to go with 30 runs batted in and 41 runs scored for UNT as she also owned a .475 slugging percentage and .352 on-base percentage.
Oklahoma Baptist’s DJ Van Atten was named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Central Region Team on Tuesday. The senior from Latta was selected as one of two designated hitters who earned second team recognition.
The Potawatomi Fire play their final two games of the regular season in The Basketball League (TBL) with a Thursday contest at the Enid Outlaws at 7 p.m. and a home matchup against Creating Young Minds (CYM) Leopards at 2 p.m.
NORMAN - North Rock Creek’s season came to an end in the opening round of the 4A State Tournament at Norman North High School. The Cougars fell to Blanchard by an 8-2 score.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Potawatomi Fire won their 17th game of the season on Friday night beating the Little Rock Lightning 125-113.
SEMINOLE – The top-ranked Dale Pirates fell into a hole they couldn’t climb out of Thursday in the first round of the Class 2A-1 State Tournament on Lloyd Simmons Field at Seminole State College. Oktaha scored six third-inning runs to stake a 7-1 advantage and right-hander Darren Ledford kept Dale in check in claiming a 10-6 upset win.
OKLAHOMA CITY– The Oklahoma City Thunder has opened registration for its summer Thunder Youth Basketball camp in Shawnee for kids ages 6-14. The camp is set for Tuesday, June 10 at Shawnee Family YMCA.
Whenever great Dale teams and wins are discussed, the Lady Pirates’ comeback win over Pocola last Thursday night at the Ballfields at Firelake in the 4A State Championship will be in the conversation. After a legendary comeback in the sixth and seventh innings to send the game to extra innings, Heartly Snyder’s final swing as a Lady Pirate lifted a towering home run to left field and lifted the Lady Pirates to an extra inning victory over Pocola to put another trophy in the crowded trophy case at Dale.
