There’s a great passage in Matthew 22 in which Jesus is teaching and preaching and the religious elite begin to go back and forth with him trying to trap him or trip him up. They tried using the things they worried about, money and taxes, they tried using impossible theology with a tricky question about the resurrection and he outplayed them all, so then they brought in a legal expert to try to get him to commit himself to something unpardonable.
