Shawnee resident, Ken “Big Boy” Westervelt, 68, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Shawnee to Gene and Ruby (Clanton) Westervelt on July 21, 1947. Ken graduated from Shawnee High School and went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree from OSU. He married the love of his life, Karen Bryce in October of 1966. He joined the Navy in 1967 and was honorably discharged in 1970. Ken started working at Tinker Air Force Base in 1971 and retired after 39 years. Ken and Karen enjoyed spending time at Lake Eufaula, going on cruises, and spending time with each other, family and friends. He was proud of his children, and his grandkids were the light of his life. Ken was funny, kind, and loved people, kids, and his dog, Chelsea. He was an avid OU fan and enjoyed golf. He was known by many, loved by all, and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Westervelt; brother, Ronnie Westervelt; father-in-law, DA Bryce Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Karen Westervelt; daughter, Michele Westervelt-Bryson; son and daughter-in-law, Mitch and Lisa Westervelt; mother, Ruby Westervelt; brother, Larry Westervelt; mother-in-law, Jo Bryce-Leister; grandsons, Drew Bryson, Adam Bryson, and Derek Westervelt; granddaughter, Cara Kralovic; great grandchildren, Jackson and Isabella Kralovic; many many other family, lake family, and friends.
Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 22, from 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Services will be 2pm Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Pastor
Larry Sparks officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
