Leonard Joseph “Pops” Splitt, 97, of Shawnee, passed away Monday, March 14, 2016, in Shawnee.

He was born Sept. 26, 1918, to Joseph S. and Victoria (Balcerek) Splitt in Lemont, Illinois.

Leonard was raised in Lemont and attended Lemont Public Schools.

He proudly served his country during WWII in the Infantry and fought in the Philippines. While on leave he married Lillie Mae Adams on Aug. 8, 1942, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, and she preceded him in death on May 18, 2001.

After being honorably discharged from the military he moved to Oklahoma City where he resided for 21 years, before settling on a farm in Tecumseh 33 years ago. He later moved to Shawnee where he has resided since.

He worked at Tinker Air Force Base as a supervisor working on the B-52 bomber until his retirement. After retirement he went into demolition work and farming. He worked as a courtesy driver at Shawnee Medical Center Clinic until he retired at age 93.

Leonard was a member of St. Benedicts Catholic Church and was a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Leonard was a man devoted to his faith and his family. He loved serving the Lord and giving things anonymously.

Pops enjoyed playing golf, bowling, playing dominos, poker and farming. Leonard was a wonderful man and a pleasure to be around. He was a very humble man who loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Splitt; daughter, Lenda Guthrie; eight brothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Donna Splitt of Oklahoma City; two grandsons, Richie and Jill Splitt and Chris and Rhonda Splitt, of Oklahoma City; seven great-grandchildren, Shane Splitt, Sicily Splitt, Blake Splitt, Madison Splitt, Hunter Siegel, Bailey Siegel and Braydon Splitt; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 17, and continue thru service time.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m., Friday, March 19, at St. Benedict Catholic Church with Father Joseph Schwarz officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
