Dorothy A. Hopkins, 92, of Shawnee, died Thursday, April 14, 2016, at a local nursing home.

Dorothy Autrey Hopkins, 92, of Shawnee, died Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Brookdale Senior Living.

Dorothy was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Hamilton, Arkansas, to Walter and Lola Autrey. She attended Shawnee High School, graduating with honors. She then attended and graduated from the Oklahoma School of Banking, and enjoyed selling real estate for Lucky U Realty.

She was married to Bill Hopkins.

A devoted wife, sister, mother, and grandmother, Dorothy loved and was proud of her family and their accomplishments, particularly her grandson, Timothy.

She served as past president of the Business & Professional Women’s Club, (BPW). While a member of the BPW, she was selected as Woman of the Year. For many years she was active in A.A.R.P. and served in several positions including president of the organization. Dorothy organized monthly charitable donations, by AARP members and enjoyed arranging the monthly presentations for AARP meetings. She particularly enjoyed decorating the tables for AARP members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hopkins; her parents, Lola and Walter Autrey; brothers, W.F. Autrey and Burman Autrey; nephews, Bill Autrey, Ronnie Autrey and William Autrey; and niece, Melinda Shankle.

Survivors include son-in-law and daughter: Jim and Jerry Herron; grandson: Tim and wife Jagruti Herron; great-grandchildren: Nathan, Brandt, and Anika Herron; sisters: Joyce Stanish and Juanita Cutmore; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 16, with Doyle Loveland officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made in Dorothy's name to Rock Creek Baptist Church.
