Greetings, Savvy Seniors! First of all, I want to say: A very happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. No matter how the term of mother came about and appeared in your life, a big “Happy Mother’s Day” wish to each person that is filling that slot!

Greetings, Savvy Seniors! First of all, I want to say: A very happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. No matter how the term of mother came about and appeared in your life, a big “Happy Mother’s Day” wish to each person that is filling that slot!

Today is a great day to decide it is the first day of the rest of our life! So, now is the time to get with it and start energizing our thoughts and actions into making the world a better place than when we arrived in it.

Dollars are short! Financial cuts are being made in nearly every aspect of living, but especially in our schools, medical care and all things pertaining to seniors. One of those cuts will be to the nursing home industry, which will reduce staffing and also could create some facilities having to close due to their cut in funding.

Now, even though a large number of citizens’ revenue is reduced, due to reduced work hours or laid off, let’s turn our thoughts toward OG&E’s plans to increase the charges on residential customers’ rates.

To all you AARP members, it is great to know that our AARP protests regarding OG&E’s planned rate hikes, made an impression regarding the change which will greatly affect our monthly billing. Sean Voskuhl, Oklahoma’s AARP Director, stated this proposal would double the monthly customer service fee from $13 to $27. So, keep your fingers crossed!

Hey, to all you that are suffering from eczema and psoriasis. A scientist and entrepreneur, Mike Centola, of Oklahoma City, has developed successful technologies at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, creating Meta/Derm Ointment, which he said he sold on Amazon. I think this is very good news!

Mother’s Day reminds me of “LOVE.” Mothers are our best friend. They are there to reach out and give us a hug whenever needed. I’ve realized to love, one has to reach out and reach up. We reach up to give our mother or grandmother a hug. We often reach out to hug someone’s tears away. Remember when small children want a hug, they reach out and up into those loving arms.

Even to be a friend, one has to show friendship and love; such as our friends, David and Peggy Click. They live in the Stella area, but come to the Shawnee Senior Citizen’s Center for fun and fellowship with friends.

They come in with smiles, and Peggy greets their friends with a hug; reaching out to friends.

We need to remember that Jesus Christ is the best Friend that any of us could ever have, but we have to reach out to Him and ask Him to accept us and forgive us where we have failed in many situations of life.

Proverbs 17:17a - “A friend loveth at all times.” Proverbs 18:24 - “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly; and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”
