A one-vehicle accident near Stroud has claimed the lives of the two teenagers.

Stroud Police Chief Clint Gaylord said that accident occurred about 8:18 a.m. Thursday on Highway 66, just east of Seventh Street in the Stroud city limits.

A 2008 Chevrolet HHR driven by Dakota Keeton, 16, was westbound on Highway 66 coming into Stroud when the vehicle crossed the center line and ran off the roadway, he said.

Gaylord said the vehicle missed a guard rail but struck an embankment and then a concrete culvert before the vehicle overturned and caught fire.

Keeton was pronounced dead at the scene, the chief said. His passenger, Gunner Smith, 16 of Bristow, was taken by Air Evac to a Tulsa Hospital, where he died, Gaylord said.

Keeton was a Stroud student, he said, and Smith had previously attended school at Stroud.

The chief said there appeared to be no signs of braking, but cause of the accident is unknown.
