Virginia Lou Dustman, 85, passed away in her home July 30 with family by her side.

She was born Dec. 9, 1930, to Harry and Gladys Ledford. She married the love of her life D.C. (Curly) Dustman on Sept. 9, 1945, to whom she always lovingly referred to as Pappy. They raised three children James, Ronnie and Karen. She began working in the medical field in the late ’60s, first at Mission Hill Hospital as a nurse’s aide, then on to become an EMT, moving to Shawnee Medical Center/St. Anthony’s Hospital. As the years rolled on she returned back to the floors of the hospital to again care for patients. If you were fortunate to be on her shift and floor then you know there was comfort, caring and compassion swirling around you. She loved her job only to retire in 2008 to care for her husband of 63 years.

She was a hard worker, fun, loving, strong willed as well as hard a headed woman who made us laugh and always feel loved.

She now has gone to a new home with loved ones who were waiting for her. She was a Christian with strong beliefs and now waiting to greet us all again one day. She will be missed but never forgotten because that’s how much of a mark she left on her family and friends while gracing us with her presence. God has returned one of his early angels to the heavens above.

Her hobbies and passions were her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Gladys; husband, Curly; son, Ronnie; grandchildren, Gregory, Jamie, Sarah; brother, Cecil Ledford and brother-in- law Russell Click.

She is survived by her sister, Anna Click; son, James Dustman; daughter, Karen Hawkins; daughter-in- law, Janis Dustman; granddog, Jug; grandchildren, Brent and wife Lori Dustman, Chanda Dustman, Kurt and wife Marci Dustman, Misty Campbell, Kira and husband Bobby Ashley, Cody Hawkins and Sheridon, Adam Hawkins; greatgrandchildren, Daniel and Hanna Dustman, Kaden and Maddie Dustman, Talon Wolf, Megan and Matthew Melter, Selena, Blake and Enrique Burdette, Lexi, Ky’Lori and Starla Hawkins, Austin Carnell, Brittney Pitchford, Trey, Sarah, Ryan and Johnaton Anderson, along with (Jacob, Joshua, Darrin, Emma); great-great grandchild, Amelia Eliott and loving nieces and nephews.
