Karen June Henderson, 72, went to be with her Heavenly Father Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, at Shawnee Care Center, after a long fight with Multiple Sclerosis.

She was born on March 14, 1944, in Shawnee, to James and Virginia Reed. Karen grew up in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1962.

Karen enjoyed traveling, fishing at Lake Eufaula, cross-stitching, painting ceramics and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Karen was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at 40 years of age. She lived her life with as much independence and dignity as she could. It wasn’t until the last year of her life that she was placed into the loving care of Shawnee Care Center.

Survivors include her daughters and their spouses, Renee’ (Lance) Wortham of Shawnee, Brooke (Mike) Oliver of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her brother Jerry Reed and wife Nell of Midwest City, Oklahoma; her sister Sharon Johnson and her husband Earnest of Weatherford, Oklahoma; her three grandchildren, Channing Wortham, Brianna Wortham and Easton Oliver; several nieces and nephews who call her Aunt June.

At Karen’s request, no services will be held. Burial at Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee, OK.

To honor her life, the family is having a small, private gathering to share their memories.

The family would like to extend their gratitude toward Oklahoma Hospice and Shawnee Care Center for the wonderful care given to Karen while under their care.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the MS Foundation or the MS Society.
