The 78th annual Pottawatomie County Free Fair is in full swing, offering displays and events today and Saturday at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center.

The 78th annual Pottawatomie County Free Fair is in full swing, offering displays and events today and Saturday at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center.

With many different types of events, there is something for everyone and today also is a school day for students.

A carnival takes place 5 to 10 p.m. today and again from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The Children’s Barnyard is available today and Saturday, while today's schedule of events includes the sheep show, the market and dairy goat shows, the beef show and dairy cattle shows.

All day today and Saturday, the 4-H ATV safety trailer will be in operation, while the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Fire Safety Smoke Trailer is on site today.

Fetch and Fish Tub Demonstrations will be going on throughout and there is a garden tractor pulling contest free to the public at 7 p.m. this evening, along with barrel racing competitions.

Saturday, the annual firefighter olympics, which includes local firefighters competing in events of skill, is scheduled for 10 a.m.

The Oklahoma Jr. High and High School Rodeo is noon Saturday, along with other events throughout the day.

And for the sixth year, the texting contest will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Organizers say the fair offers a family-friendly atmosphere that has something for all ages –– from senior citizens to small children.

Various exhibits and events are open to the public from 9 a.m. until the fair shuts down at 10 p.m.

An awards assembly will begin to wind the fair down at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The release of all entries and exhibits will be from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.. Sunday. All exhibits must be picked up by 11 a.m.
