An 8-year-old Shawnee boy is hospitalized with injuries including third-degree burns following a hit-and-run in a local neighborhood.
Logan Skelton, the son of Alma and Jason Skelton, is undergoing treatment at OU Children's Hospital, Alma said. He's already missing school and football, his mother said, and his second-grade classmates from Sequoyah Elementary have sent him a get well video.
Alma said the accident occurred at Rose Drive and Rickey Road as Logan — and about nine other children — were playing outside around a curb area about 5:45 p.m. Friday.
Alma said Logan, who was in the grass, was hit, then dragged under the car. A neighbor they had never met before was nearby and helped pull her son out from under the car, she said, before the driver allegedly took off.
“We're lucky she was there,” she said.
Logan was taken to OU Children's Hospital, where he is being treated for a broken clavicle and third-degree burns from being under the car, his mother said. He's also had surgery and will have to do skin grafting for the burns, she said.
“He's a trooper,” she said.
The official police report on the accident wasn't yet completed Monday, but information indicates two people have been arrested in the case.
The driver allegedly let out a passenger and Alma said her husband chased after that man, while police caught up with the alleged driver at another location.
