The Avedis Foundation announced a $60,000 grant to the Mabee-Gerrer Museum Of Art Inc.

“Mabee-Gerrer Museum is a treasure in the Shawnee community and beyond,” said Paula Waters, Avedis Director. “Dane Pollei and his exceptional staff enrich the community in countless ways.”

Tonya Ricks, Mabee-Gerrer Development Director, said, “The grant from the Avedis Foundation will allow us to continue the Visual Thinking Strategies educational method in local schools, such as the Jim Thorpe Alternative School. We are thrilled that the Foundation has confidence in this education program and its potential to grow Shawnee and Tecumseh students’ abilities in critical thinking, problem solving and tolerance of others.”

Donna Merkt, Curator of Education, said, “We are very grateful for the support to help the Museum continue its work utilizing art from a variety of different cultures and time periods to help students become confident and creative problem solvers. Daily, the museum strives to bring the world to Oklahoma and we are proud to be working with Avedis to make that happen.”
