Things were hopping at the Senior Citizens Center as all were preparing for their big open house for Meet & Greet on Thursday evening. Excitement was growing for the pool tournament, with several women gaining interest in entering.

Last week, Thixie Toddy was running around in a circle, it seemed, as she made sure all volunteers, (Very Important People) were notified of the VIP Banquet, held last Tuesday night at the Expo Center. Numerous volunteers were honored for their many hours of dedicated services. Numerous door prize gifts were given away through-out the evening.

Volunteers? Are you a volunteer? Have you ever thought about being a volunteer? Are you sitting home, lonely, with nothing to fill your days, except maybe for television, and during this campaign season, that sure isn’t relaxing or enjoyable!

Make the decision to become a volunteer. Just about every organization and facility have places where volunteers are needed. Volunteers have a positive impact on society, because they give their time freely in many different ways.

One single act of kindness has the power to start an avalanche, giving a rippling effect which will radiate through-out your area, state, and nation.

You may never know what and how, giving of your time and assistance, would or could make a change in some manner. Your actions may set in motion a desire for others to step up; and make a change in others’ lives, as well as your own.

When people show they care, freely giving of their time to help others, creates a stream of joy which flows from the volunteer’s life into the lives of others; many of whom the volunteer may not know or ever know, but they have the joy inside, knowing they have helped someone.

In the past, I have been involved as a volunteer with the American Red Cross in Alaska and Oklahoma; the Salvation Army in several states, and always with community fund drives for United Way, Heart, Cancer, and you name it, and I was there helping. But, time, birthdays and status of health often slows down a lot of volunteerism.

But, when I was a child, no one knew of the word: Volunteer. It was helping a neighbor, friend, or stranger in need.

Everyone was there in time of sickness, death, reaping the crops, and helping in where ever their help was needed. It was known as loving your neighbors and fellow person. God’s love has no limits. His love cannot be contained or measured. Each person is dear and precious to God.

John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
