An unlicensed driver who allegedly struck and injured an 8-year-old Shawnee boy in a local neighborhood is now formally charged in Pottawatomie County District Court.
The accident occurred Sept. 30 at Rose Drive and Rickey Road as Logan Skelton — and about nine other children — were playing outside around a curb area about 5:45 p.m.
Logan was struck and dragged under the car, according to reports, and he suffered a broken clavicle and third-degree burns, his mother said.
The driver of the car, identified by Shawnee police as Roscoe Lynch III, 39, had allegedly been involved in a hit-and-run accident with another car when he fled that scene and then allegedly struck the child.
Lynch was formally charged Monday with leaving the scene of an accident involving an injury, a felony. He is also charged with misdemeanors of leaving the scene of an accident involving damage, reckless driving, driving without a license and obstructing an officer.
He remains jailed in the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center; his next court date has yet been scheduled.
A reported passenger who allegedly got out of the car and tried to flee also was arrested and is now charged.
The passenger, identified as Kyle W. Suneagle, 26, is charged with the misdemeanor of obstructing an officer. His next court date hasn't yet been scheduled.
Logan is still recovering from injuries.
He spent more than a week at OU Children's Hospital for treatment of burns to his bottom, but he is now home and continuing his recovery as an outpatient.
The second-grader, who plays football on the youth Wolves team, is out for the rest of the season so the Shawnee High School Wolves honored him Friday night. During the Wolves homecoming game, he stood with the team during the coin toss.
