SHAWNEE – It wasn't the sendoff that Oklahoma Baptist Volleyball wanted for its two graduating seniors as the Lady Bison fell, 3-0 (24-26, 23-25, 23-25), on Senior Night inside the Noble Complex. Oklahoma Baptist's two seniors, Shekinah Sharpe and Sierra VeraCruz, were honored before tonight's match.
Despite the loss, the Lady Bison are still in the hunt for their first Great American Conference regular season crown thanks to a five-set victory by Arkansas Tech over joint-leaders Harding. Oklahoma Baptist and Harding are now tied for first place with Ouachita and ATU for the conference title.
Nicole Fleitman and Cadyn Laing paced the OBU offense, combining for 21 of the Lady Bison's 39 kills on the night. Kynnedy Myers had a double-double with 31 assists and 11 digs. VeraCruz accounted for 21 digs in her final match at the Noble Complex, while Hayden Blair and Katrina Horner joined the senior libero, and Myers, in reaching double figures in the category. Sophia Couto had a match-high five total blocks.
Oklahoma Baptist (17-12, 11-4 GAC) will look to clinch a share of their first conference title since 2013 when they make the short trip to Bethany, Oklahoma, to face rival Southern Nazarene on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Sawyer Center.
