Phillip E. Washburn, 61, of Shawnee, passed from this life Monday, Nov. 14, 2016.

Phillip E. Washburn, 61, lifelong resident of Shawnee, passed from this life Monday, Nov. 14, 2016.

He was born July 2, 1955, to Bob Elton and Vera (Ziegler) Washburn in Shawnee.

Phillip was raised in Shawnee and attended Shawnee Public Schools. He graduated with the class of 1973 from Shawnee High School. After high school he attended Oklahoma City Community College.

Phillip was owner and operator of Reliable Automotive in Shawnee for many years. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others with their car troubles. His love for cars lead him to get involved in stock car racing and he participated in many races at the County Line Speedway in Meeker.

He loved fishing and reading. Phillip was very passionate about his faith and was a faithful worshiper. He was a self-proclaimed religious philosopher and was always an advocate for what is right. Phillip enjoyed spending time with his children; they were the focal point of his life. He also took great joy in his dogs who were like family to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Vera Washburn; and sister, Roberta “Shelly” Walker.

Those left to cherish his memory are his two daughters and one son-in-law, E. Jill Smith of Shawnee and Allison (Washburn) Leone and husband Josh of Shawnee; one son and one daughter-in-law, Rick and Melissa Johnson of Mannford; three grandchildren, Caryse Bateman, Lillian Davis and Grady Smith; three sisters, Linda Painter of Shawnee, Pauline and John Butts of Greenbrier, Arkansas, and Rebecca and Roy Painter of Shawnee; one brother, Johnny Washburn of Shawnee; and many friends, nieces, nephews and extended family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 19, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ed Wilson of Church of God Evening Light in Shawnee officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
