On Thursday the Shawnee Salvation Army will host its annual Thanksgiving dinner. Meals will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey, potatoes, gravy, vegetables, rolls and desserts will be served.

The Salvation Army expects to serve more than 800 meals that day. Meals will be delivered to seniors who are unable to get out of the house.

“I love the fact that we are able to bring together volunteers and those who are in need and have them sit at the same table, meeting each other and for the very first time and enjoy a meal together,” Salvation Army Captain Jamie Clay said.

During the Thanksgiving meal, there will be arts and crafts tables set up so children can make various items that they can take with them or give to others who come for dinner, Clay said.

There will be a jacket give-away for those who are in need of winter jackets.
