Shawnee Police Spokeswoman Vivian Lozano said it was about 9:01 p.m. Wednesday when officers were involved in a pursuit of a felony suspect identified as Dustin Coggins, 25. Coggins has outstanding felony warrants for Burglary II and failure to appear out of Pottawatomie County, she said.

The pursuit began in the area of Main Street and Center Street when Cpl. Austin Bizzell tried to conduct a traffic stop on Coggins. Coggins led officers through the area and east on Highway 3 at a high rate of speed, she said.

He then turned north on Valley View Road, passing Interstate 40. Coggins turned west on Westech Road and continued at a high rate of speed, she said, before turning back northbound on Kings Road.

When approaching the intersection of Kings Road and Wolverine, Coggins lost control, with the vehicle crashing into a utility pole and knocking out power in the area. Coggins fled on foot through a dense wooded area were officers where unable to locate him, she said..

Canadian Valley Electric was contacted to restore power to that area. The Pontiac G6 that Coggins was driving was totaled and impounded by Brown and Sons Wrecker.
