Shawnee city sales tax collections are up for November, compared to the same month a year ago.

Cindy Arnold, finance director and city treasurer, reports the November sales tax check received this month was $1,468,286 — $42,094 or 2.95 percent higher than November 2015, which was $1,426,192.

For the fiscal year, figures show the city is down $34,647 or .46 percent, Arnold said.

“We're down a little bit, but we're still holding our own,” Arnold said. “We are encouraged that we haven't seen the rapid decline like other cities have.”

She said with new development on the horizon the city is very optimistic.

November Use Tax collected is $111,647 –– which was down $49,840 compared to November of 2015, when $161,487 was received.

Last year the city saw a few high months in use tax, due to the completion of the Marketplace, Arnold said.

Use tax is based upon the point of delivery, she said, so when there's construction going on, collection will be higher.

“Compared to November 2014, we are up $10,000,” she said.
