Robert Earl Wood was born Sept. 6, 1916, in Okfuskee County, and departed this life on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, in Meeker at the age of 100.

Robert, the son of Robert W and Flora (Stiles) Wood, was a longtime resident of Meeker. Farming was an important part of his life which began with working on his childhood farm and continued with his return to farming when he purchased an 80-acre farm in Payson with his first wife of 37 years, the late Donna (Wilson) Wood. He further expressed his value of farming and investing in his community by donating calves to the FFA program in Meeker.

Robert proudly served three and a half years as an engineer/gunner on a B-25 for the United States Army and continued his service by completing aircraft mechanic school and was then stationed at bases in San Antonio, South Carolina, Florida and South America before being sent to the Philippines. He returned to Oklahoma and worked three jobs at Wilson’s Meat, Wood’s Paving Co. and the U.S. Post Office. Robert retired from the post office after 25 years of service and made farming his full-time job.

He married Estell (Chesser) Wood on Sept. 19, 1987, at Garden Grove.

Robert was an active member of Meeker First Baptist Church for over 50 years where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Robert’s parents, first wife, Donna (Wilson) Wood, sons Bert, Richard and Danny Wilson, brothers Archie, Albert and Ross, and sisters, Helen, Irene, Alice and Zadie preceded him in death.
