Julia L. Richards, 93, of Shawnee passed away Friday, Dece. 2, 2016 in Shawnee.

Julia L. Richards, 93, of Shawnee passed away Friday, Dece. 2, 2016 in Shawnee.

She was born June 2, 1923, at the family home in Newalla, Oklahoma, to William “Bill” and Blossie (Geyer) Childers.

Julia was raised in the Shawnee Lake area where she lived most of her life until moving to Bethel Acres for 12 years. She has resided at Avonlea Cottage in Shawnee for past 6 years. She married Norman “Snow” Richards on Sept. 3, 1938, in Newalla and he preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 2010.

Julia spent her life as a homemaker being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed taking care of her home and family. Julia loved gardening, canning and freezing her vegetables harvested from her garden every year. She also enjoyed fishing with Snow on the Arkansas River.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman “Snow” Richards; son, Howard Richards; her parents; daughter-in- law, Ronna Richards; son-in- law, Curtis Ayers; 3 sisters, Mary Geyer, Lilly Ledford and Ruby Ott; and 4 brothers, Paris Childers, Jimmy Childers, Lavern Childers and William Childers.

Julia is survived by her two daughters and a son-in- law, Joyce and Bob Skelly of Shawnee and Lavon Ayers of Shawnee; three sons and daughters-in- law, Larry and Sharon Richards of Noble, Lynn and Vickey Richards of Durant and Glenn Richards of Enid; daughter-in- law, Carolyn Richards of Tecumseh; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Deloris and George Birkicht and Reva Childers; and other extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 4, and continue through service time.

Service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Carol Hopper, Lifeline Church in Shawnee officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
