City Finance Director Cindy Arnold said Shawnee city sales tax collections are up for February, compared to the same month a year ago.

Sales tax collected for the past year totals $1,676,413 — compared to 2016's figure, which was $1,605,202.

On her agenda memo Arnold said, “We were up $71,211 or 4.44 percent.”

For this time of year, collections have consistently shown an increase for the past few years — 2015 figures were $1,580,604.

“For the fiscal year (from July to February) we are down $53,097 or .44 percent,” she said. “Use tax deposit in February for January collections was $91,477.”

The city should see an increase in Use Tax the last couple of months of this fiscal year since Amazon will start collecting Oklahoma Sales tax starting March 1, she said.

“We are down year to date 14.31 percent, but in dollars only $150,000,” Arnold said.
