The Amy Price Insurance team is partnering with local law enforcement agencies and will host a Cops N Kids event Aug. 26 at Woodland Park.

“This year we sat down to strategize about how we could help our community the most,” Amy Price said. “We reached out to our local law enforcement agencies to see how we could serve and they requested our assistance with this event.”

The event is hoping to bring members of local law enforcements and the youth of Shawnee together.

“These are men and women are are a big part of the community and can be mentors,” Anne Rezentes said.

This event is an opportunity to investment in Shawnee's future, Rezentes said.

“A lot of these children don't have a father, mother or both,” Rezentes said. “They have grown up thinking going to jail is normal and cops are bad guys. This event is an investment in our future. These kids are going to grow up and live in our city. We can work together now to help these kids get on the right track or we can let them grow up and put bars on our windows.”

In order to fund this event, sponsors and donations are needed.

Rezentes is challenging local businesses in Shawnee to give $100.

“We put our money in the market all day long knowing today we could lose all we have invested. Let's put $100 in our city where we live, work and know a child will be saved.”

Donations are to be turned in by Aug. 7.

Hot dogs, cookies and water will be provided.

Several events and games are planned for kids of all ages.

The event will be at Woodland Park from 1-4 p.m.

In order to donate, make checks payable to Shawnee Community Foundations with a memo: Shawnee Cops N Kids. Donations can be mailed or delivered to Shelter Insurance at 313 W. MacArthur Street. Price and Rezentes are willing to pick up the check if needed.
