Shawnee resident Jerry E. Ozeretny, age 85, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at a local nursing home.

Jerry E. Ozeretny, 85, of Shawnee, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at a local nursing home.

He was born April 7, 1932, in Prague to Henry and Mary (Kubicek) Ozeretny.

He was a graduate of Centerview High School.

He worked as a supervisor in Logistics at Tinker Air Force Base for 36 ½ years.

On Sept. 24, 1955, he married Patricia Musick in Shawnee. She preceded him in death Aug. 17, 2016.

He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from Nov. 22, 1952 to Nov. 4, 1954.

He served as city commissioner from 1978-1979 and mayor for the city of Shawnee from 1980-1986.

He was a member of University Baptist Church in Shawnee, and a lifetime member of VFW and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, brother: Adolph Ozeretny, two sisters: Pauline Quesenberry and Helen McClung, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law: Ruth and Vernon Musick.

Survivors include son: Gary Lee Ozeretny of Tecumseh; daughter and son-in-law: Susan Kay and Greg Koontz of Keller, Texas; two grandsons: Cory Ozeretny of Oklahoma City and Leland Konechney of Shawnee; three granddaughters: Madison Koontz and Macy Koontz, both of Keller, Texas, and Charmain Webb of Shawnee; brother: Ernest Ozeretny of Lake Charles, Louisiana; sister: Josephine Brewer of Shawnee.

Service will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Steven Dominy officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. tuesday to visit with friends and family.

The family has designated the Salvation Army as appropriate for memorials.
