Johnny Clyde Matthews, 77, went to be with our Lord, Sept. 20, 2017, at his home.
Johnny was a avid fisherman, loved camping with his family, hunted every deer season and just sit at the wood cutting camp with his brothers and grandsons. He played the slots from time to time, loved Nascar and talks with his nephew for hours after every race.
Johnny retired from Fred Jones Ford in 1978. Worked at the Shawnee News-Star white running his own business known as Day and Night Pump Service. He retired from the News-Sat in 2004 but continued with Day and Night Pump Service until 2006. He then went to work for Sam Pierce as a mechanic until his health declined but continued to help by phone when needed.
Born in Blanco, OK., before the family moved to Daisey, OK., where he loved living and grew up until he lost his Dad. The family moved to Prairie Valley, OK., before he met his wife Judy, after attending school thru the 10th grade.
Johnny and Judy married in Gainsville, Texas, August 10th , 1957. Losing his wife to Lupus in 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cicil and Fern Matthews, wife Judy Faye Sanders Matthews, brother James Matthews, sister Bertha Matthews Calaway.
He is survived by 3 beautiful daughters, Molly Bynum, Ratheda and Bill Gillis, Sherrii Rhodes and Curtis Mitchel, brother Troy and Martha Matthews, sisters Wanda and Emil Yost, Maxine Matthews Wright, Anita and Paul Beaman all of Oklahoma. In-laws Benny Callaway and Pat Hammons Matthews, one aunt Jewel, many nieces and nephews, ten grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, his very good friend Sam Pierce, and companion of 15 years Glenda Brown.
Johnny will be extremely missed by his family and ll that knew and loved him.
Memorial service will be at Cooper Funeral Home, Sept., 25 th at 11:00 a.m. in Tecumseh, OK.
