Jacob Janzen and Patrick Harris finished first and second and led Oklahoma Baptist to a third-place finish at the Great American Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Jacob Janzen and Patrick Harris finished first and second and led Oklahoma Baptist to a third-place finish at the Great American Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday. Janzen won the eight-kilometer race in 25:40.85 and Harris was second at 25:52.26.

Janzen resisted the temptation to leave the lead pack early as an East Central runner sprinted into the lead and eventually made up the ground.

“Jacob ran really well,” said OBU Coach Mark Heard. “He kept his head ran the last half mile in great fashion.”

Garrett Elmore took 13th at 26:58, Deangelo Robles was 21st at 27:42 and Jarrett Ellis rounded out the scoring Bison at 28:17 for 26th.

Janzen earned Runner of the Year and First Team All-Conference. Harris, a true freshman, also was First Team All-GAC and Elmore, a redshirt-freshman, was Second Team All-GAC.

“To have a freshman make first team and Garrett Elmore in his first year of competition make All-Conference gives us something to build on,” Heard said.

OBU finished the race with 63 points. Harding won with 43, followed by host Southern Arkansas in second at 58.

Also running for the Bison were Nathan Crowson in 33rd at 28:48 and Gerardo Tarango in 51st in 33:37.
