In a joint effort by the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma, the City of Shawnee, Absentee Shawnee Tribe and Central Disposal, a household hazardous waste disposal event is planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Central Disposal, 700 E. 45th St.

In a joint effort by the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma, the City of Shawnee, Absentee Shawnee Tribe and Central Disposal, a household hazardous waste disposal event is planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Central Disposal, 700 E. 45th St.

Funding was provided, in part, by a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The free event was organized for — and is open to — Shawnee residents and members of participating tribes only.

To prove eligibility, participants are asked to bring a copy of a city utility bill or Tribal identification.

City Manager Justin Erickson said, though the upcoming event is a test case, he hopes it will become an annual occurrence.

What will be accepted:

• batteries

• lawn care products

• oil and latex paint

• pharmaceuticals

• pool chemicals

• pesticides and herbicides

• old mixed fuels

• motor oil

• light bulbs (CFLs, etc.)

• gas cylinders (propane tanks)

What not to bring

Tires, explosives, radioactive material, commercial waste or lab waste or unlisted items will not be accepted. Commercial waste will not be accepted.
